i heart wakeboarding
Wakeboarding is my newest obsession, although I should say it’s one of my oldest, dormant hobbies since I’ve been a water sport freak since I was about 13-years-old. But in California, surfing tends to steal the lake lifestyle thunder.
Here’s a few of the wakeboarding sites I’ve been checking out:
WakeWorld: The UI is scary, but who check out their feature stories - I mean, seriously, who wouldn’t enjoy a wakeboard trip on Lake Shasta!
Alliance Wake: A bit more savvy UI and experience - think sick wakeboard videos to Crystal Castles.
The Wakeboard Camp: Um, yeah. It’s a camp for wakeboarding in Florida, and I hope it’s not just for the youngsters.
Buy Wake: Seems like a good online shop for gear. On my lesson, it just so happened that I was riding the Ricky G. Gonzales with an S is my mom’s maiden name, so it’s close enough, but still not a Sanchez board.

Strangers in the Wind, Cut Copy
This song reminds me of classic rock, folk and new wave. Never imagined that would be possible. And the lyrics are beautiful, “…A daze is what you’re falling for. You could stay for what you came here for…”

Thank you, Abber, for sharing this little gem with me - mustaches on skateboard decks! The Ernesto (far right) looks quite similar to the Sanchez.

Watching: ¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto!!
Pedro Almodovar is one of my favorite movie makers, and lately I’ve been catching up on his old school classics. His early work reminds me of John Waters ala Desperate Living. I’m currently watching “What have I done to deserve this?” The first scene involves full-frontal male nudity and sex in the shower. It gets even more scandalous from there. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and Talk to Her are two of my other Almodovar favorites.

Crimewave - Crystal Castles
Don’t even *try* not dancing to this song. Imagine leotards and leg warmers. Yeah, OK.

I’m attending the Outside Lands Festival on Friday after some friends persuaded me that Radiohead is going to kill it with the performance of In Rainbows. I haven’t heard the album yet - planning my first listening session today. Regardless of my Radiohead fan status, I’m looking forward to a night of rock, including seeing the Black Keys perform. I hope it’s not too chilly!

Inspired by Amber Wing - pro wakeboarder

It’s my amazing luck that on my first wakeboard lesson last Saturday, I had the privilege of getting tips from Amber Wing, #2 in the pro wakeboard tour! Amber was super friendly, helpful, and seeing her ride was inspirational. I can’t wait for my next lesson. Derek Cook, teacher at South Bay Wakeboard Academy, was great. He offers hourly and half day lessons.

I’m heading down to Lake Anderson in Morgan Hill on Saturday morning to work my wakeboard skills. I’ll be doing 180s in no time (or face plants and body flops)!

» Skate Study House

My friend Matt has an incredible collection of skateboard decks, so naturally, I’ve started to take note of skate art, style and culture. The ecolect blog introduced me to Skate Study House. I love their take on combing skate style with mid-century modern design.
